TOKYO, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Tuesday as investor sentiment was bolstered by a rise in U.S. shares overnight, while the yen's soft tone against the U.S. dollar helped lift exporter issues.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 144.71 points, or 0.66 percent, from Monday to close the day at 22,196.89.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 4.34 points, or 0.25 percent, to finish at 1,716.13.
Oil and coal product, nonferrous metal and electric appliance-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
