TOKYO, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks retreated Thursday, with the Nikkei stock index closing at a three-month low, as investors were in a risk-off mood on trade tensions.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 170.05 points, or 0.78 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 21,546.99, marking its lowest closing level since April 4.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 17.05 points, or 1.01 percent, to finish at 1,676.20.
Oil and coal product, nonferrous metal and retail-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
