TOKYO, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened essentially flat Thursday as investors were in a circumspect mood amid ongoing U.S.-triggered trade tensions that may lead to retaliatory tariffs being slapped on the United States.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 2.20 points, or 0.01 percent, from Wednesday to 21,719.24.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 4.70 points, or 0.28 percent, at 1,688.55.
Notable gainers in the opening minutes after the morning bell comprised fishery, agriculture and forestry, insurance and transportation equipment-linked issues.
Those that notably declined were led by oil and coal product, bank and rubber product-oriented shares. Enditem
