RABAT, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Angola and Burkina Faso settled for a barren 0-0 draw in their Group D opener at the 2018 African Nations Championship on Tuesday.
Held in the in the Moroccan city of Agadir, their first encounter in the tournament did not live up to expectations.
Angola had better possession and more initiative, but Burkina Faso had the best opportunity seven minutes before the final whistle when Youssouf Kabore failed to hit the target.
After the game, Burkina Faso's coach Drissa Traore said he was satisfied with his team's performance, especially the defense.
"They did a great job, I'm hoping to have the players who missed the game due to injury for the next matches," he said.
Angola's coach, Srdan Vasiljevic was also happy with the result. "I'm happy with how the players played and also their work rate. They were very dynamic and I hope they will continue [that] for the next game," Vasiljevic said.
The biennial tournament is for African footballers based in their own domestic leagues.
