RABAT, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Namibia beat Cote d'Ivoire 1-0 in their Group B opener in the African Nations Championship on Sunday in the Moroccan city of Marrakech.
Vetunuavi Hambira secured the three points for Namibia after a header in the 92nd minute.
After this victory, tournament debutants Namibia went to the top of their group.
Before the match, Namibia's coach Ricardo Mannetti said that there has been no national league in Namibia for two years, which made it difficult to form a team since the competition is for players who are based in their respective countries.
Mannetti says the players did well to make history against all odds. He also stresses that the CHAN is a wonderful platform for showcasing Namibian football.
