ISLAMABAD, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan Railways (PR) on Tuesday announced to operate five special trains to facilitate commuters on the occasion of one of the country's largest festivals - Eid-ul-Fitr, an official said.

According to the spokesperson of the PR, the first train will depart from the country's southern port city of Karachi to northwest Peshawar on June 2. Another train on the same day will depart from southwestern Quetta city to eastern city Rawalpindi.

Two other special trains will leave on June 3 and 8 from Karachi to Lahore and Rawalpindi to Quetta, respectively, whereas the fifth train will start its journey from eastern Lahore to Karachi on June 8, the spokesperson said.

He said that passengers can make reservations at the offices of railways or can buy their tickets online, adding that the booking will open from May 29.

Earlier this week, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry told a press conference that Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to be celebrated in Pakistan on June 5.

According to local media reports, around 8 million Pakistanis travel from across the country, especially from major cities, to their hometowns to celebrate the annual Eid festival with their families. However, the shortage of transportation create problems for commuters.
