ALGIERS, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Libyan UN-backed Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj on Thursday arrived in Algeria for a one-day official visit, state-run Radio Channel 1 reported.

Accompanied by Libyan Foreign Minister Mohamed Siala and a group of advisors and military officials, al-Sarraj was welcomed by his Algerian counterpart Noureddine Bedoui upon his landing at Algiers International Airport.

The Libyan prime minister is due to hold talks with Algerian officials over the developments in war-torn Libya and the ways to restore peace in the country under the UN-backed peace deal signed between the warring parties in the Moroccan town of Skhirat in 2015.

Libya has been witnessing fierce battles near Tripoli since the east-based army led by Khalifa Haftar launched a military campaign in early April to take over the Libyan capital from the UN-backed government.

In an earlier statement on the latest developments in Libya, Algeria reaffirmed its commitment to all-out efforts to restore peace and security in Libya.
