BRATISLAVA, May 19 (Xinhua) -- The Czech Republic thrashed Austria 8-0 in their IIHF World Championship Group B clash on Sunday.
In a dominant Czech performance, Dominik Kubalik, Jan Kolar and Radek Faksa scored one goal each and added two assists. Michal Repik led the scoring with two goals.
Czech goaltender Pavel Francouz made 16 saves as he secured a shutout. His Austrian counterpart Lukas Herzog saved 31 out of 39 shots on his World Championship debut.
Austria remain without a single point, along with Italy, and these two will battle each other for survival on Monday. The Czechs conclude their preliminary stage on Tuesday against Switzerland.
