PHNOM PENH, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian authorities had arrested 5,335 drug-related suspects in the first four months of 2019, a 10-percent rise over the same period last year, the Interior Ministry's anti-drug department said on Wednesday.
Some 121 suspects in this year's drug arrests are foreigners, the department said in a report.
It said authorities had busted 2,494 cases involving illicit drugs during the January-April period this year, up 2 percent over the same period last year.
According to the report, about 333 kg of drugs were seized during the first four months of this year, a remarkable increase from only 93 kg confiscated over the same period last year.
Cambodia has no death sentence for illicit drug traffickers. Under its law, anyone found guilty of trafficking more than 80 grams of illicit drug will be jailed for life.
