BRATISLAVA, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Banska Bystrica hockey club did not capitalize on the chance to claim the title in Slovakia's ice hockey premiership Tipsport Liga on Sunday.
Trailing 3-0 in the final series, Nitra rallied in game 4 and won 2-1 in a shootout drama.
The fans in the sold-out arena in Nitra had to wait almost 40 minutes for the first goal and it was the home team's Erik Caladi who took advantage of a scrimmage before Banska Bystrica's goalie Stephon Williams. Ten minutes before the final buzzer, Tomas Zigo found the back of Juraj Simboch's net and his equalizer pushed the game into overtime.
With none of the finalists scoring the golden goal, a shootout had to determine the winner. And it was Nitra's Graeme McCormack who sealed a much-needed victory for the home crowd.
The final series, standing at 3-1, now moves to Banska Bystrica where the home team will get the chance to secure the third league title in a row.
