HANOI, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian players won three final matches, and Japanese athletes won two others at the 2019 Vietnam International Challenge badminton tournament which concluded in Vietnam's Hanoi city on Sunday.
Firman Abdul Kholik from Indonesia beat his compatriot 2-0 (21-16 and 21-7) at the men's singles event, Vietnam News Agency reported.
Hirari Mizui from Japan defeated Se Young An from South Korea 2-0 (21-19, 21-11) at the women's singles event.
Two Indonesian men downed South Korean rivals 2-1 at the men's doubles event while Indonesian women doubles pair whitewashed Chinese Taipei players 2-0 at the women's doubles event; and a Japanese duo crashed a Thai duo 2-0 at the mixed doubles event.
The six-day tournament featured 292 players from 18 countries and regions, including Australia, Brunei, Canada, England, France, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and South Korea.
The Vietnam International Challenge, which has been held for the past 12 years, became an officially sanctioned tournament of badminton's BWF world governing body in 2018.
