YANGON, April 10 (Xinhua) -- An ethnic insurgent group Arakan Army (AA) attacked the headquarters of police battalions in Myanmar's Rakhine state, according to the release from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defense Service late Wednesday.
Starting from 10:05 p.m. on Tuesday, a group of AA insurgents with heavy and small weapons attacked the military housing for married police, targeting to attack the main base of the police battalion later in Mrauk-U township.
The security police and military columns jointly fought back the armed insurgents and the headquarters was under control by the military. The insurgent group retreated at 05:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The armed attack killed two police and one family member while seven police personnel went missing and seven family members of security personnel including three children were taken away by the AA insurgents, according to the Myanmar Police Force.
A total of 23 members of AA insurgents who fled to the nearby villages were captured by the military column after the clash.
