KAMPALA, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Uganda will host the 2019 regional Council for East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) Senior Challenge Cup, a top official said on Monday.
Nicholas Musonye, Secretary General of CECAFA told Xinhua that following a meeting in Ethiopia on Monday, Uganda was allowed to host the Challenge Cup.
Uganda Cranes have won a record 14 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup titles, and the defending champions Kenya have taken seven.
Last year Kenya withdrew at the last moment from hosting the Senior Challenge Cup because of financial challenges.
"Presidents of Federations and CECAFA have agreed that we shall have seven Championships this year. The members have made it clear which tournaments they will host," he added.
Musonye said Eritrea will host the U-17 tournament, while the CECAFA Club Championship will take place in Rwanda and the CECAFA Women's Championship in Tanzania.
"The hosts for the other competitions will be communicated," he added.
Moss Magogo, the Uganda FA president, told Xinhua that they will be ready to host the Challenge Cup this year.
"We had some challenges and did not host the U-20 tournament last year, but we shall host the Challenge Cup," he added.
Last year CECAFA only managed to stage the U-17 Championship in Djibouti and the Women's Championship in Rwanda.
