ANKARA, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- Turkey condemns the European Parliament's decision to recognize Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as interim president, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Friday, warning that foreign interventions could lead to a civil war in the country.
"Any foreign intervention in Venezuela is not right and will deepen the problem," Cavusoglu said in Romania.
"Nobody should disrespect the will of Venezuelan people," Cavusoglu said, referring to the elections that brought President Nicolas Maduro into the power.
The countries should bring dialogue into the forefront instead of taking sides, he stated.
The European Parliament Thursday called on the EU member states to recognize Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as the interim president.
EU lawmakers approved at a special session in Brussels to recognize Venezuelan congress head Guaido, who declared himself interim president last week.
