MAIDAN SHAR, Afghanistan, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from a massive Taliban car bombing against an Afghan Special Forces' base in eastern Wardak province has risen to 32, a local official said Tuesday.

"The latest figures found that 32 security force members were killed following the explosion which occurred in Maidan Shar, provincial capital of Wardak province, on Monday morning," Khawani Sultani, a member of provincial council, told Xinhua.

The attack occurred when a Taliban suicide bomber drove a hijacked explosive-laden military vehicle inside the compound and detonated it near the main building of the facility, he said.

Sultani also noted that more than 70 security personnel were wounded in the blast.

Several members of National Directorate of Security (NDS), the country's primary intelligence agency were among the killed and wounded, he added.

The deadly attack also partially destroyed the building.

Further details about the incident were still forthcoming amid the absence of any official statement.

The Taliban militant group has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack.
