PHNOM PENH, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- At least four people were killed and 11 others were injured when their truck went upside down on Sunday in Southwestern Cambodia's Koh Kong province, a local police chief said.

The tragic accident occurred at 12:30 p.m. when the speedy truck carrying 15 people drove down a hilly road and overturned after the driver lost control of his vehicle due to brake failure, said Sok Phorn, police chief of Botum Sakor district.

"Four people -- two men and two women -- were confirmed dead, as 11 others, including four women, got injured when the truck careened off the road and turned upside down," he told Xinhua.

Sok Phorn blamed the driver, who also sustained serious injuries, for the crash, saying that the driver did not know the road well and did not have the truck's brake checked properly before driving.

He said the victims were a troupe of artists, who were on the way to perform a concert at a wedding celebration in Koh Kong province when they met the accident.

Death toll from road traffic accidents remains high in the Southeast Asian nation. In the first nine months of 2018, a total of 1,313 people had been killed in road crashes, as 3,427 others got injured, according to a government report.
