KABUL, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- A U.S. soldier was killed in Afghanistan on Saturday, the NATO-led Resolute Support (RS) confirmed.
"One U.S. service member was killed in Afghanistan today. In accordance with U.S. Department of Defense policy, the name of the service member killed in action is being withheld until 24 hours after notification of next of kin is complete," the RS said in a statement.
The brief statement did not give details, saying "we will share additional information as appropriate."
NATO and U.S. forces completed their combat mission in Afghanistan by the end of 2014, after 13 years of military presence in the country.
However, around 16,000 foreign troops remained in Afghanistan to help train and advise the Afghan forces in the war against insurgents.
