KUNMING, China, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia's Myagmarsuren Baasankhuu and Annemiek Irene Stegehuis from the Netherlands won the titles of men's and women's categories respectively at Colorful Yunnan International Granfondo in Lijiang, Yunnan Province on Saturday.
Lijiang was the final stage of 102 kilometers, with an altitude of more than 2,500 meters, which was the highest stage in the event with a number of climbs. Mongolia's Iderbold Bold won the stage with 3:16:44. And his teammate, Myagmarsuren Baasankhuu who won two stages during the event, finished with an almost 10-minute advantage over the second placed cyclist, Australia's Craig Stuart .
"It's an absolutely amazing feeling to get the title," said Baasankhuu, who praised his teammates for their support, "I've always had my teammates around me. I wouldn't be the champion if it wasn't for their sacrifice. A massive thank you! This is a special team, I'm so proud to be a part of it." he said.
In the women's race, the Netherlands' Annemiek Irene Stegehuis who won three stages during the race got the title. "We all love the Yunnan Granfondo because it's unpredictable, the passion of the local people along the road side, the beautiful scenery, the bonds of friendship created this amazing event." Stegehuis said.
The Yunnan Granfondo has been held every year since 2014. This year's competition covers more than 600 kilometers from Mangshi to Lijiang, and encompasses a variety of terrain. Nearly 1,500 cyclists from 26 countries and regions took part in this year's event.
