BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine's Valeriya Ivanenko won gold in the women's hammer throw at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires on Monday.
Egypt's Rawan Ayman Ibrahim Barakat threw a personal best for the silver medal while Cuba's Alegna Osorio Mayari won the bronze.
"I felt a lot of pressure, but I gave my best," said Ivanenko, who a 72.08-meter throw in the second stage of the event on Monday.
In the first stage held last Friday, she notched up a 74.90-meter throw.
The athlete is coached by her father and she attributed her success to working with him.
"I'm very happy to work with my dad. It is a great incentive. Thanks to him, I can make progress faster," Ivanenko said.
