CHAPECO, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Leandro Pereira struck either side of halftime as Chapecoense moved out of the Brazilian Serie A relegation zone with a 2-1 victory over Internacional on Tuesday.
Nicolas Lopez put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot before Pereira equalized with a header just before halftime at Arena Conda.
Internacional were reduced to 10 men in the 80th minute when Argentine defender Victor Cuesta was shown a second yellow card for a bad challenge.
Pereira then converted an 82nd-minute penalty before former Brazil international striker Leandro Damiao saw his stoppage-time penalty attempt parried clear by goalkeeper Jandrei.
Chapecoense climbed to 16th in the standings, one point clear of the relegation zone, while Internacional remained second, a point behind leaders Sao Paulo.
