KIGALI, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Rwanda's Rayon Sports club entered the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday after beating Tanzania's Young Africans 1-0 here to finish second in Group D.
Rayon Sports' winning goal was scored by Caleb Bimenyimana in the 19th minute in a fully packed stadium.
It was a do or die match for the Rwandan side to get a ticket to the last eight. However, Rayon played without their best players, including skipper Thierry Manzi, Olivier Niyonzima, Christ Mbondi and Yannick Mukunzi, who had been suspended by CAF.
Any result for Rayon, other than a victory, could have seen the team knocked out.
In another Group D match on Wednesday, USM Alger beat Kenyan side Gor Mahia 2-1 in Algeria to emerge top on the table with 11 points, followed by Rayon with 9 points, Gor Mahia with 8 points and Young Africans 4.
