JAKARTA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's 19-year-old wushu athlete Edgar Xavier Marvelo won the silver medal in the men's changquan competition at the 2018 Asian Games on Sunday.
Marvelo captured the first medal for Indonesia at this year's Games with a score of 9.72, just 0.03 points below China's gold medal winner Sun Peiyuan. "I dedicate this medal to the people of Indonesia and also my parents," Marvelo said.
This is the second medal Marvelo has picked up within a year after winning bronze at the Southeast Asian Games last August in Kuala Lumpur.
Marvelo has been practicing wushu since the age of 6, and won scores of medals in international competitions, including the gold medal at the World Junior Wushu Championships in 2010 in Singapore.
The Indonesia Wushu Association Chairman Airlangga Hartarto said he is satisfied with Marvelo's achievement. Chinese Taipei's Tsai Tse Min claimed the bronze with a score of 9.70.
More than 220 athletes will compete for 14 gold medals in wushu at the 2018 Asian Games.
