TOKYO, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares closed lower Thursday amid renewed trade tensions.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 234.17 points, or 1.03 percent, from Wednesday at 22,512.53.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 17.67 points, or 1.00 percent, lower at 1,752.09.
Trading volume on the main section came to 1,642.42 million shares, down from Wednesday's 1,767.25 million shares.
Among all shares listed on the First Section, declining issues outnumbered advancers 1,509 to 509, with 85 ending the day unchanged.
Decliners were led by nonferrous metal, marine transportation and mining issues.
The day's turnover was around 2,767.8 billion yen (24.80 billion U.S. dollars). Enditem
