HANOI, June 17 (Xinhua) -- China failed to maintain its four-tournament winning streak in the Asian Women's U19 Volleyball Championship, losing 3-0 to Japan on Sunday in the final of the 2018 edition in Vietnam's northern Bac Ninh province.
The final scores after three sets were 25-20, 25-14 and 25-20.
The Chinese players stood at an average of 1.85 meters, compared with just 1.73 meters for the Japanese team, with China's height advantage causing trouble for Japan.
In the third set, the Chinese athletes' tireless digging and powerful spikes helped them take the lead for the first time during the match. However, Japan subsequently showed great strength of character to win three sets in a row.
In the bronze medal game, Thailand beat Chinese Taipei 3-1.
At the previous championship in 2016 in Thailand, China finished first, followed by Japan, Thailand and Vietnam.
The Asian Women's U19 Volleyball Championship occurs every two years, and was first held in 1980. Enditem
