BAGHDAD, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Thursday ordered an investigation into the Wednesday deadly explosion in a residential area in eastern Baghdad.
According to a statement by his office, Abadi, also the commander-in-chief of Iraqi forces, instructed the Interior Ministry to "investigate the incident and to take deterrent legal action against the perpetrator of the crime."
A day earlier, an explosive cache at a house used as a warehouse went off near a Shiite mosque in the Shiite bastion of Sadr City neighborhood, a stronghold of nationalist Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.
The house was totally destroyed, and five nearby houses were badly damaged, leaving a crater of five meters deep and a diameter of 50 meters.
An Interior Ministry source put the toll of the massive blast at 14 killed and more than 90 others wounded, without giving further details about which militia owns the house.
