JIANGMEN, China, June 6 (Xinhua) -- The United States ended Brazil's 9-match winning streak in women's fourth-round action at the FIVB Volleyball Nations League (VNL) here on Wednesday.
It's a battle between top 2 teams in the VNL standings. Brazil has won 9-straight matches after losing to the Germany in the opening game. On the other side, the Team USA is on eight straight 3-0 wins after defeating Russia on Tuesday.
Middle blocker Lauren Gibbemeyer and Jordan Larson scored 16 points each to help Team USA finish the match in 4 sets (25-23, 26-28, 25-21, 25-18).
However, they lost the second set to Brazil, with the record stopped at a 25-set winning streak.
Team USA will take a 9-match winning streak into the battle with China on Thursday. The hosts swept Russia Wednesday evening 25-21, 25-19, 25-22.
Chinese superstar Zhu Ting dominated on defense and offense, delivering 13 points, while spiker Liu Xiaotong contributed a game-high 15 points.
Russia's loss also sends Team USA to the FIVB VNL finals with four games remaining.
