GUANGZHOU, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Police in south China's Guangdong Province have caught over 150 people in an online gambling case involving over 400 million yuan (62.7 million U.S. dollars), local authorities said Thursday.

The public security bureau of Jieyang City found a number of people were running online gambling houses earlier this year. An investigation showed that a gang had been organizing gambling through many websites and gained profits of more than 400 million yuan.

In an joint effort of Shenzhen public security bureau, the policemen caught the suspects in the cities of Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Jieyang. A number of computers and bank cards were seized, according to Jieyang public security bureau.

Besides the over 100-member gang, there were nearly 2,000 agents and promoters and over 50,000 club-members involved.

The gang has been destroyed and more than 150 suspects, including the five leaders, were caught on March 20. Enditem
