LAGOS, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria's Super Eagles are set to play Europa League champions Atletico Madrid in a friendly match as part of the team's preparation for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The friendly match, sponsored by Multichoice Nigeria, will be played at the Nest of Champions Stadium, Uyo on Tuesday evening.
The team have been boosted by the arrival of other players expected in camp.
According to team coordinator Patrick Pascal, coach Gernot Rohr and other members of the technical crew are already in southern city of Uyo and itching to get on with the team's training program.
The Super Eagles are expected to trade tackles with Leopards of Congo DR next Monday in Port Harcourt before proceeding to London, where they will play the Three Lions of England at the Wembley Stadium on June 2.
Nigerian forward, Alex Iwobi, told reporters that the team will perform creditably at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Iwobi, who plays for the Arsenal FC of London, said he was confident of Nigeria's capability ahead in the World Cup.
He also said that playing in the World Cup was a dream come true for him, adding that he was glad to be among the selected players and expressed the confidence of doing well for Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian police department said it will deploy 424 police personnel to ensure security for life and property during the international friendly between Super Eagles and Atletico Madrid.
Macdon Odiko, a police spokesperson, said the police would collaborate with sister agencies in the state and sporting officials to facilitate adequate security in line with international standards.
