UNITED NATIONS, March 7 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council on Wednesday called for the implementation of UN Resolution 2401, which demands an immediate cease-fire in Syria.
Members of the Security Council expressed concern about the humanitarian situation and discussed the cessation of hostilities, Dutch ambassador to the United Nations Karel van Oosterom, who is president of the Security Council for the month of March, briefly told reporters after closed-door consultations.
He did not give more details of the meeting and refused to take questions.
Wednesday's emergency meeting was requested by France and Britain in face of the failure to implement Resolution 2401, which was unanimously adopted on Feb. 24.
