MADRID, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Vero Boquete, the captain of the Spanish Women's Football Team made history on Wednesday when she signed for the Chinese first division side BG Phoenix Football Club.
30-year-old Boquete makes the move to China after a career which has seen her play in Spain, as well as in the prestigious American, Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) and in top European teams such as Bayern Munich and Paris Saint Germain.
Meanwhile she captained the Spanish national side in the 2015 World Cup and has scored 38 goals in 56 appearances for her country.
"It is a new continent and a new opportunity to continue growing," said Boquete, who is also a Spanish LaLiga Ambassador.
"Football has always given me the chance to improve and now I can continue to do that in China."
"I know it is a new period and will be different to what I have experienced before," she added in declarations to the Spanish LaLiga website.
Boquete moves to China after a season and a half in PSG and after reaching the final of the 2017 Women's Champions League (which they lost on penalties). She explained that part of her decision to move to China was to maintain her "competitive level and to play more minutes and to feel important to my team again."
She will wear the number 21 shirt for BG Phoenix and will make her debut in the Cup in March.
