Namibia ready to host ICC Cricket League Division 2 tournament

WINDHOEK, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's senior men's cricket team received national colors on Monday for the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket League Division 2 tournament in Windhoek.

The tournament will run from Feb. 8 to 15. Namibia hosted the first event in 2015 and this will be second time it will take place in the southern African country. The tournament is regarded as the first step to getting closer to the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019.

According to Cricket Namibia all teams will arrive in the country on Feb. 6. The teams that will participate in this qualifying event include Canada, Kenya, Nepal, Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

The top two teams in this tournament in Windhoek will advance to the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier that will take place in Zimbabwe.

In Zimbabwe the winners and the runners-up of the ICC World Cricket League second division (ICC WCL) will join two groups. Group A consists of the West Indies, Ireland, the Netherlands, Papua New Guinea and the winners of the ICC WCL.Div2 and the runners-up of the ICC WCL Div2. Group B consists of Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, Scotland and Hong Kong.

The top five teams at the qualifiers will than advance to the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019.

Cricket Namibia said it can comfortably say that it has the logistics under control and it is very exciting to have been chosen to host this event again.
