TOKYO, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks edged higher Friday morning as the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar lifted sentiment and gave exporter issues a boost.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 34.34 points, or 0.15 percent, from Thursday to 23,703.83.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 2.47 points, or 0.13 percent, to 1,887.03.
Precision instrument, service and machinery-linked issues led notable advancers by the morning break.
