TORONTO, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Canada's main stock index rose Friday due to rising financial and industrial shares.
Toronto Stock Exchange's benchmark Standard & Poor's/TSX Composite Index rose 68.99 points, or 0.42 percent, to close the day at 16,353.46. Nine of the index's 10 main groups were up.
Royal Bank of Canada added 0.8 percent to 107.72 Canadian dollars, while Toronto-Dominion Bank gained 0.4 percent to 74.08 Canadian dollars.
The overall financial services sector climbed 0.6 percent, while the materials group advanced 0.8 percent.
Barrick Gold Corp rose 1.6 percent to 17.99 Canadian dollars. Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd rose 2.8 percent to 233.40 Canadian dollars.
Kinder Morgan Canada Ltd climbed nearly 7 percent to 17.91 Canadian dollars.
The energy group was down 0.4 percent.
