YAOUNDE, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- At least three people were killed in an attack Wednesday night in Cameroon's Far North region, with the terror group Boko Haram suspected of being behind it, local sources told Xinhua Thursday.

The attack occurred in the Kolofata subdivision in the north, bordering the group's base in Nigeria. It was thought to be related to the group's efforts to grab food from the local population as their food supplies are said to be running out.

"We knew that their food stocks have been exhausted for months," a traditional chief in Kolofata, who declined to be named, told Xinhua. "One should expect such incursions from time to time."

The same night, Boko Haram members also raided several villages near the Mayo Moskota subdivision, causing the villagers to take refuge in the border city of Nguetchewe, where Cameroonian troops have been deployed.
