YANGON, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar will hold a children's literature festival in Yangon on Saturday, aimed at nurturing children's intelligence, creativity, verbal skill and love of literature.
The three-day Children's Literature Festival will take place at the State Basic Education High School No. 6 Botataung in Yangon which was a popular English high school.
The Children's Literature Festival is jointly organized by the Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Education and the Yangon Region Government.
The festive activities include story-telling, poem-reciting, and painting competitions, literature talks, debate and entertainment.
Booths will feature quiz test, while others include elephant dancing and puppet show.
Book stalls will also be opened for book lovers during the festival, said the organizers.
Several similar children's literature festivals have been held in Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, Mawlamyine, Taunggyi and Monywa.
In December last year, Myanmar held a literary conference in Yangon, attended by over 700 writers, poets, cartoonists, publishers and international literati.
To encourage development of literature, the Myanmar government has also been annually presenting National Literature Awards to outstanding writers since 2001.
Children and youth literature was among the selected genres awarded which also include long and short stories, poems, belles-letters, culture and arts, translation, political literature, English-language books.
