MACAO, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Sam Hou Fai, candidate for the sixth-term chief executive of China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), submitted his nomination on Tuesday to the SAR's Electoral Affairs Commission for the Chief Executive Election.
Backed by 383 members of the Chief Executive Election Committee, Sam has garnered strong support ahead of the election.
The election, scheduled for Oct. 13, will see the new chief executive selected by the 400-member Chief Executive Election Committee. According to Macao's Chief Executive Election Law, any candidate must be nominated by at least 66 members of the committee.
The nomination period for candidates, set by the electoral affairs commission, runs from Aug. 29 to Sept. 12.
Sam recently stepped down from his post as president of Macao's Court of Final Appeal. ■
