TOKYO, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened flat on Friday, with investors sentiment dented by the yen's appreciation against the U.S. dollar which weighed on exporter issues.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 4.06 points, or 0.02 percent, from Thursday to 22,760.62.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 0.36 point, or 0.02 percent, at 1,749.95.
Nonferrous metal, and iron and steel issues comprised those that declined the most, while oil and coal product, and pharmaceutical-linked issues comprised notable gainers.
