ATHENS, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras congratulated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his electoral victory, said an e-mailed statement from Pavlopoulos' office on Monday.
The Greek president sent a congratulatory message to his Turkish counterpart for his reelection, the statement said.
Tsipras also spoke with the Turkish president by phone on Monday to congratulate him, read a statement from the Greek PM's office.
During the conversation, Tsipras highlighted the need for Turkey to release the two Greek servicemen who are detained since early March after crossing the borders during adverse weather conditions, noting the importance the issue has for bilateral relations, according to the e-mailed press release.
The two Greek servicemen were charged with espionage in Turkey after crossing over the border in early March. They claim that they lost their way amid adverse weather conditions.
The two leaders also discussed bilateral cooperation ahead of the European Council meeting on Thursday, in the context of the joint EU-Turkey statement, and they agreed to meet on the sidelines of the NATO summit meeting in Brussels in July, the Greek prime minister's office announced.
