MAIMANA, Afghanistan, June 23 (Xinhua) -- At least six armed insurgents were killed and seven others wounded during a clash between security forces and the Taliban militants in northern Faryab province on Friday, an army spokesman in the northern region said Saturday.
"Afghan army soldiers faced Taliban ambush during their routine patrol in Shirin Tagab district of northern Faryab province on Friday night which resulted in fighting during which six militants were killed and seven others injured," Mohammad Hanif Rezai, spokesman for the Army 209 Shaheen Crps in northern provinces, told Xinhua.
After the clash the army forces also seized some amount of weapons and ammunitions, he said while rejecting casualties on army forces and civilians during the clashes.
Taliban militants have yet to make comment.
