KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, June 21 (Xinhua) -- A total of 11 people including 10 militants and one police officer have been killed as clashes erupted between government forces and Taliban fighters in Jalai district of Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province on Wednesday, provincial police chief Abdul Raziq said Thursday.
The clashes, according to the official, flared up Wednesday night when Taliban militants attacked police checkpoints in Qari Salim area of Jalai district and police returned fire inflicting casualties to the insurgents.
Without providing more details, the official said that police would spare no efforts to ensure law and order across the troubled province.
Taliban militants have not commented yet.
