KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Four suspected insurgents have been arrested in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar as Afghan and coalition forces continued in mopping-up operations, authorities said Friday.
"A four-member group of Taliban terrorists has been arrested after a raid in surrounding areas of Kandahar province recently," provincial department of the country's primary intelligence agency National Directorate of Security (NDS) said in a statement.
The arrestees were responsible for a string of subversive activities, including launching ambush attacks against military convoys and roadside bomb attacks, in Shah Wali Kot, Maywand, Khakrez and Mayanshin district of Kandahar, according to the statement.
Security situation has been improving in Kandahar, the former stronghold of Taliban, over the last months, as security forces have conducted search and cordon operations across the province. But the militants attack government interests in the province from time to time.
The militant group has yet to make comments on the report.
