SAN FRANCISCO, April 5 (Xinhua) -- An armed suspect was shot dead in an exchange of fire with police Thursday evening in Fremont city in the U.S. state of California, police said.

The Fremont Police Department said in a statement that "undercover Fremont Police officers located a wanted male suspect traveling as a passenger in a vehicle."

The male suspect was found running toward a gas station, where he pointed at the police officers with a firearm and then shots were fired, said the statement.

"During the shooting, the suspect was struck and fell to the ground. A revolver was located at the suspect's side with expended casings," said the police.

Witnesses said the shootout was like a "war zone" and at least 10 gunshots were fired.

Fremont police said the suspect "had an active felony warrant for illegal possession of a firearm and had an additional felony warrant for a probation violation."

According to police, no law enforcement officers were wounded in the shootout, and there were no other injuries arising from it.

This is the second gun shooting incident in less than three days in the San Francisco Bay area after a woman shot and injured three people at the YouTube headquarters on Thursday.

The woman, identified as a 38-year-old YouTube user, was said to have committed the crime because she "hated" YouTube for failing to pay her for the content she posted to the site.
