TRIPOLI, March 22 (Xinhua) -- The Libyan Foreign Ministry on Thursday denied reports about the kidnapping of an Egyptian diplomat in the capital Tripoli.
A statement issued by the ministry's information office denied reports on social media about the kidnapping of an Egyptian diplomat, saying that the Egyptian embassy and consulate did not resume work in Tripoli yet.
The General Department of Diplomatic Missions Security said that "all the news on social media is untrue, and that all embassies are insured."
The department also confirmed that no diplomat from Egypt is currently present in Tripoli.
Social media on Wednesday reported that gunmen kidnapped an Egyptian diplomat on a working visit to Tripoli.
There has been no Egyptian diplomatic presence in Tripoli for more than four years, after its diplomatic mission left the capital in early 2014, following the kidnapping of 5 employees and diplomats from its embassy in Tripoli.
