ST. PETERSBURG, March 13 (Xinhua) -- An explosion destroyed several apartments on the upper floors of a residential building in St. Petersburg, Russia on Tuesday.

Local media reported that rescue teams are on the scene and no information about the victims has been available yet.

According to preliminary information, the cause of the explosion was the ignition of a gas-air mixture in an apartment.
