BERLIN, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Another German citizen imprisoned on political grounds in Turkey has been released from custody by local authorities, the German Foreign Office told press on Friday.
The spokesperson for the Foreign Office was unwilling to provide any personal details about the individual and noted that they were still legally-barred from leaving Turkey.
The development further underscores the recent improvement in diplomatic relations between Berlin and Ankara. Traditionally close German-Turkish ties had come under severe strain in the wake of failed coup d'etat in Turkey in 2016.
Together with the recent and widely-publicized return of the "Welt" journalist Deniz Yuecel to Germany, the release of the unnamed prisoner on Friday means that the number of German citizens in Turkish custody has declined from ten to four within a matter of weeks.
