TOKYO, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Friday as U.S. shares rebounding overnight brightened the market mood with investors buying on dips following recent retreats also adding support.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 156.34 points, or 0.72 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 21,892.78.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 14.36 points, or 0.82 percent, to finish at 1,760.53.
Oil and coal product, mining and construction-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
