KABUL, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has pledged 70 million U.S. dollars to fund power transmission from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan, a local newspaper the Daily Outlook reported on Saturday.
Under the agreement inked by the two sides last week, the fund will be invested in transmitting some 1,000 megawatts of electricity from Surkhan area of Uzbekistan to Pul-e-Khumri power grid in the northern Baghlan province, the paper said.
Afghan government imports power from Turkmenistan, Iran, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to overcome electricity shortage in the insurgency-battered country.
